Floating Houses, a World Heritage

Abstract

The main objective of this article is to historically reconstruct and thus contribute to the rescue of the tradition of floating houses, a cultural heritage in danger of extinction. The recovery of this knowledge, its socioeconomic relations and unique construction system is part of a multidisciplinary, transversal and integral approach. This recovery and (re)valorization of an exceptional cultural heritage, which, until today, has not been the object of study, nor a focus of political and cultural institutions, is aimed at connecting essential aspects of the past, present and future in various territories around the globe that are defined by local climatic and geographical characteristics.
